Telenor launches the first Norway AI factory, emphasizing the processing of sustainable and sovereign data, aimed at advancing green computers and data sovereignty.
Telenor announced the launch of the first Norway AI factory, a strategic decision which underlines the company’s commitment to the processing of sustainable and sovereign data. The installation, which has become operational in November, marks an important step in the progression of green computer initiatives and data sovereignty, according to a report by (nvidia blog) (https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/telenor-ai-factory/).
Processing of sustainable data
The AI factory, developed in less than a year, is designed to process sensitive data safely on Norwegian soil. This decision is aligned with Telenor’s inheritance of 170 years as a telecommunications supplier, highlighting his dedication to environmental responsibility. The factory serves various industries, including logistics and public services, offering sustainable and secure sovereign soors solutions.
Commitment to green initiatives
Telenor’s commitment to sustainability is also demonstrated by its construction plans of a data center in Oslo. This installation will operate on renewable energies, with excessive heat reused for district heating in neighboring residential areas. This initiative not only supports green IT, but also reflects a broader trend to integrate environmental considerations into technological progress.
Empower nations with sovereign AI
The Sovereign IA infrastructure provided by the Telenor factory is essential for nations aimed at managing sensitive data while achieving sustainability objectives. Kaaren Hilsen, head of innovation at Telenor and head of the AI factory, stressed that the role of the factory extends beyond the development of infrastructure. It is a question of “advancing society”, by emphasizing responsibility and sustainability.
Future perspectives and industry ideas
Hilsen should share other information at the NVIDIA GTC, a global conference on the leading AI, in a session entitled “Acceleration of Sovereign IA factories: Ideas for case of telecommunications”. This session will explore the role of telecommunications companies to become Sovereign IA factories.
In related developments, a survey conducted by NVIDIA revealed that 84% of telecommunications professionals plan to offer generators’ solutions, mainly as software as a service and developers. This trend highlights the growing importance of AI in the telecommunications sector.
While the world continues to cope with environmental challenges, the Telenor IA factory represents an important step towards the combination of technological innovation and sustainability. By prioritizing green IT and data sovereignty, Telenor defines a precedent to know how nations can take advantage of AI to meet technological and environmental objectives.
